The growing popularity of saffron party in Assam has initiated the two major opposition party closer to each other. President of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Badaruddin Ajmal has met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi twice in past few days.

Both the Congress and the AIUDF have supporters among Muslims in Assam and do not want the BJP to come to power in the state. The upsurge of BJP among the Muslims and tribals in the state have forced the AIUDF to rethink its strategy. Muslims voters can alone decide the fate of 45 out of 126 constituencies in Assam and to prevent division of their votes, the Congress and the AIUDF must have pre-poll understanding. That is why Gogoi has announced that the Congress is open to tying up with all non-BJP parties, including the AIUDF.

Meanwhile, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and Left parties have rejected Gogoi’s offer of forging a grand alliance against BJP.

A whole lot of calculation is going on among the political parties to come into the power before the election. Perhaps this would not have happen if the political parties could keep up the promises they made during the election or worked for the development of the state during the five year tenure.

Moreover, voter need to understand the whole politics before choosing any candidate. Whoever comes to power the voters always losses. This has continued since independence and every voters need to understand their power of vote.
