Tea industry is one the largest labour oriented industry, which has a major contribution in the economy of the country. More than 10 lakh workers are associated with this industry. Yet, when the workers of the tea garden retires they own no homes for their living.
Perhaps the things are getting changed and government of Assam coming up with a scheme to provide houses on ownership basis.
As per the reports of PTI, additional chief secretary to the chief minister of Assam MGVK Bhanu told that the government would allot the land required for building the homes and would develop it. He also said that the land will be adjacent to the gardens, but not used for tea purposes. Adding to it he further told that the chief minister wants this to happen and this is his pet project.
Moreover, identification of the land is done and the approximate cost of the project would be Rs 400 crore, said Bhanu. The workers will be getting the land at free of cost as well as a subsidy of Rs 25,000 would be provided to each workers to build the house.
