Majuli Island will Soon be Reachable via Road

The biggest river island Majuli will soon be reachable via road. Central government will construct four new bridges over the Brahmaputra in Assam said Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. One of them will be connecting Jorhat with Majuli which is surrounded by river and can be reachable only via waterways now.

Sonowal also told that the other proposed bridges would connect Disangmukh in Sivasagar district with Tekeliphuta in Lakhimpur district, another would connect Nagaon with Rangapara near Tezpur in Sonitpur district while the fourth bridge would connect Gohpur with Numaligarh in Golaghat district.

The Dhakuakhana-Lakhimpur road and the Lakhimpur Majuli road would be converted to national highways for improving transportation on the northern bank of the river, which will benefit the people of northern districts of Assam.

Further, Sonowal told that the ongoing construction work of the road and rail Bogibeel bridge over river Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh district would be completed next year. He also informed that Nitin Gadkari, Union Transport Minister would come to lay foundation stone of various road projects on February 27.
