Joseph Toppo a Prominent Adivasi Politician of Assam Passed Away

Former state minister and ex MP of Tezpur constituency Joseph Toppo passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was 62 and is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
Toppo was suffering from respiratory ailments. He fell ill while addressing an election rally in Tezpur last week and was shifted to a private hospital in Guwahati where he breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon.
Joseph Toppo was one of the most prominent leader of the Adivasi community of Assam. He was a founder member of the AGP, was a member of the state Assembly for three terms since 1996 and was minister for labour and employment under then Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. Toppo was also elected as an MP Lok Sabha in 2009.
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) announced three days' mourning for him. In a condolence message Assam CM Tarun Gogoi described Toppo as a responsible person. Former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said Toppo was one of the simplest human beings he had met.
Moreover, the demise of such a humble leader has sadden the Adivasi community.
