Karam parab celebrated with all pomp and gaiety

Ranchi the city of waterfalls once again busted with resounding music and songs of Karam. The festival of Karam is celebrated on Bhado Ekadashi – on the eleventh day of the full moon of month of Bhado month (August – September). The Karam tree – the symbol of power, youthfulness is worshiped in this grand festival. Ho, Mundari, Oraon, Kharia, Panch Pargania, Kurukh, Khortha, Korba, Santhali, Nagpuri, and Kurmali from Chhotanagpur region celebrate it with all fervor.

Special celebrations were organized all over Chhotanagpur region and specially all over the city of Ranchi. Special mention to be made of the celebration conducted at Purana Ranchi where Karam was organized by Karam Samiti led by Professor Tina Kachhap of Ranchi University. Some of the dignitaries present during the celebration were SP Raj Kumar Lakra, Retired DSP of Gumla – Atul Kumar Kerketta, and Mr. Digambar Kachhap from BJP.


On this special occasion, cultural dance competition was conducted for inter-hostel and inter-cultural groups at St. Xavier college, Ranchi. Eight hostels participated in the first category and five cultural groups in the second one. In the hostel level competition, St. Anne College Second Hostel won the 1st prize, Ursuline college Hostel and St. Anne College first Hostel won the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.


In the cultural group level competition, Chhotanagpur Kharia Student Association, Heera Barwe Student Association, and Chhotanagpur Munda Students Association won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. The organizing committee comprised of Fr. Prabhat Kennedy Soreng, Fr. Henry Barla, Don Bosco Lakra, Jeewan Jacob Lakra, Arun Tigga, Anuranjan, Julian, Anuj, Sandeep, Vijay, Marcus. Special mention also be made of Eilin Kujur, Sameer Minj, Shashikant Lakra, Sangeet Lakra, Ranjit Kerketta, Saveeta Kumari, Arpan Lakra, Anju Kumari, Sonu Ekka, Neha Tirky.


The Karam was also celebrated with great zeal at Morabadi, Siram Toli, Argoda, Naya Sarai, Kanke, Hatia, Namkum, Kata Toli, Lowadih, ITI, etc.
